2005 Pastoral Compensation Report - Annual Update

for United States Covenant Churches

The fourteenth annual Pastoral Compensation Report is attached for your information.This report is
designed for Covenant churches located in the United States.

The Covenant Annual Meeting has requested annual dissemination of the Pastoral Compensation Report -
the objectives of which are:

• to focus local church attention on taking action with regard to those pastors compensated below
  suggested minimum guidelines;
• to make pastoral compensation, with full support of regional and denominational leadership, an
  important priority of local church management; and
• to provide useful information for all churches in making decisions regarding pastoral compensation.

It is our hope that the information contained in this report will be of assistance to you and, within the
polity of our churches, be helpful in promoting fair and adequate compensation for pastors and their
families. Where appropriate, please plan to use this information as part of the local church annual
budgeting process. This report is basically for senior pastor compensation.

Please note two important items:

• some conferences also publish information and guidelines regarding compensation in that conference;
  where there is conflicting information, conference material should be used because it is designed
  for that specific geographical area.
• we encourage pastors and church chairs to purchase for their churches a copy of the 2006
  Compensation Handbook for Church Staff; we have negotiated a special discount rate for Covenant
  churches. That compensation handbook gives data related to other church positions.
