The Paul Carlson Partnership

The Paul Carlson Partnership is an international aid and development organization serving the poorest of the poor in three areas of urgent need: health, poverty, and education. While the Partnership provides immediate assistance as needed, it focuses especially on long-term development and sustainability.

The Paul Carlson Partnership honors the life and spirit of missionary doctor Paul E. Carlson, who served the people of northwest Congo in 1963-64 and was killed by rebel soldiers after returning from safety to continue his healing work. Working together with local leaders and people, the Partnership develops projects, programs, and facilities for medical services, public health services, child welfare service, community development activities, education, and research. Toward these ends, the Partnership raises funds to be used to accomplish the purposes to which Paul Carlson dedicated his life. For three years the focus is on the Democratic Republic of Congo, helping the people to rebuild following the devastation of another civil war. Future projects will be carried out in other countries to be identified, with a priority on Africa, Asia, and South America.

The Paul Carlson Partnership is affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church. The president of the Partnership is Rev. Curtis D. Peterson, Executive Minister of World Mission for the ECC. The director is Rev. James V. Sundholm. The Partnership has been deeply pleased to have the encouragement and involvement of the Carlson family in its work; and Lois Carlson Bridges, widow of Paul Carlson serves as an honorary director on the board.

Through all of its activities, the Partnership seeks to assure the ongoing witness to the love of God in Jesus Christ which characterized the life and death of Dr. Carlson. In doing so, the Partnership keeps alive the flame of love, hope, and commitment that burned so brightly in Paul Carlson’s life.
