Glenn R. Palmberg Elected to Third Term
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (June 16) - Glenn R. Palmberg was elected to a third term as president during this morning's business session of the 121st Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
His nomination came from Catherine Gilliard, recently retired chair of
the Executive Board who spoke on behalf of the 23-member Presidential
Nominating Committee that unanimously recommended his re-election.
Members of that committee included 12 representatives of the Executive
Board, the chairs of the boards of Women Ministries, Covenant Ministries
of Benevolence, Ordered Ministry, Pension and Benefits, regional
conferences, and trustees of North Park University.
"The committee looked at the seven ministry opportunities that guide our church and felt strongly that the next president of the Covenant should be someone who would be able to keep us focused on developing the next phases of each of these specific ministry areas."
Gilliard quoted Lee Richman, chair of the nominating committee, who said that "for this time in the Covenant's history, Glenn is the right leadership for this church and for setting the direction in which it is headed."
"As chair of the Covenant's Executive Board, I have seen Glenn's focus and passion for compassion and justice ministries," Gilliard said. "The Presidential Nominating Committee heard Glenn's heart when he shared that he has the energy to strengthen our focus in issues of hunger, poverty and justice. Glenn is a well-respected voice in evangelical circles and he is excited about using his influence to guide the church in new ways to serve those in need."
