After all the money was counted, however, the girls discovered they had
raised $1,400.
"They were pretty surprised at how excited the people were and how their
things sold so quickly," says Julie Steel, pastor of children and
families. "They didn't see how big this was going to get." As a result,
three pairs of cows and calves will be purchased.
The girls spent a lot of time outside of class, assisted by their Sunday
school teacher, Joan Selvig, making items to sell. They also made
posters and power point slides used in the worship service to advertise
the project.
Jim Sundholm, director of the Paul Carlson Partnership, says he is
grateful for the students' work. "We hear the quote, 'a child shall lead
them,' and once again, its the young ones who step forward and become
the difference makers and set the model for us."
"The impact of this starter herd will last for many years to come,"
Sundholm adds. "It's a gift that will keep on giving."
