Pastor Ikki Soma is encouraged that donations also have come from
churches of different ethnicities as well as denominations. "It's been
great for our church to see that because we're a multiethnic church," he
says, noting that the congregation has been inspired seeing churches
reach across denominational lines. "It's also a witness for our community."
On Palm Sunday, thieves stole a trailer that contained all the equipment
for Connection Covenant Church, which meets at AMC Huebner Oaks Theater.
The church stores its sound system and nursery equipment in the trailer,
which was parked behind an apartment in a gated community.
The pastor of Embassy Family Church told the local news station that his
congregation was eager to help. "They're part of the body of Christ,"
said Pastor Jose Rodriquez. "They're family members. Because of that we
felt compelled that we needed to help."
Castle Hills First Baptist Church has donated money to the church. Life
Covenant and Westmoore Community Covenant Church and Life Covenant
Church in Oklahoma are among the churches that already have donated
funds. Other Covenant churches have offered support, as well.
Those interested in learning more about the need and ways to help can
call Soma at 210-833-0076 or Garth Bolinder, superintendent of the
Southeast Conference, at 918-361-3531.
Donations can be directed to Connection Covenant Church, P.O. Box
701332, San Antonio, TX, 78270-1332. A special account has been
established at a San Antonio bank where all donations will be deposited,
Bolinder notes. "And should there be any excess funds donated, they will
be re-directed to the conference church planting fund," Bolinder says.
