Service Held for Retired Pastor Joseph Herner

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (April 4) - A funeral service was conducted Monday at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis for retired Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Joseph Herner who died March 30 at Colonial Acres Health Care Center in Golden Valley following a lengthy illness.

Herner, 85, was a native of Minnesota. During WW II, he served as a radio operator on an Air Transport Command flight crew that transported high priority cargo to Africa, Arabia, and India.

He was educated at the University of Minnesota, Lutheran Bible Institute, and North Park Theological Seminary. He served congregations in Strandquist, Minnesota; Milford, Massachusetts; Pleasantdale, New York; and Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. He also served as a chaplain in a hospital and a nursing home.
