Funeral Service Friday for Evan Goranson Sr.

OAK LAWN, IL (February 15) - A funeral service will be conducted Friday for retired Evangelical Covenant Church pastor Evan Goranson Sr., 86, who died today.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Covenant Church in Oak Lawn. Visitation will be observed from 3-8 p.m. Thursday (tomorrow) at the Edgar Funeral Home at 10900 S. Cicero in Oak Lawn.

Goranson was born February 5, 1920, in Forestville, Connecticut, the son of Emil and Elsie Goranson. He graduated from North Park Theological Seminary in 1951 and was ordained in 1953.

Following a number of years working in the private sector, he served as an assistant pastor in the Covenant church in Galesburg, Illinois, and completed his internship in the Covenant church in Dunbar, Wisconsin. He later served Covenant pastorates in Elgin, Illinois; Ridgway, Pennsylvania; Muskegon, Michigan; and Oak Lawn, Illinois.

He served in a number of roles over the years on the Covenant Board of Pensions and the Board of the Ministry, as well as serving as chair of three conference ministeriums.

Survivors include his wife, Elvera; daughters Beth Ellen and Susan, and a son, Evan Jr., who also serves as a Covenant pastor.
