Covenanter Wins Award to Study Web Use

HOLLAND, MI (January 24) - Evangelical Covenant Church minister and educator Isolde Anderson recently was named a Towsley Research Scholar at Hope College, where she is an assistant professor of communication.

The Towsley Research Scholars Program is made possible by a grant of $500,000 from the Towsley Foundation of Midland, Michigan. Income from this endowment funds appointment of a Towsley Research Scholar each year. Each Towsley Research Scholar holds the fellowship for four years. The first Towsley Research Scholar was named in 1996. Anderson has taught at the school since 2003.

Anderson will use the award to study Internet community. She will focus on CaringBridge, a service that provides personalized web pages for individuals and families going through adoption, hospice care, birth, hospitalization or other type of care situations. She plans to examine why people choose to use the site and how they use it to construct an identity and make sense of their experiences.

Between 1981 and 2003, Anderson was pastor of Covenant churches in Maine, Illinois, and Massachusetts.
