North Park Senior Honored for Soccer Performance
CHICAGO, IL (October 19, 2005) - North Park University senior Abbie Frank was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her performance during last week's competition.
Frank scored the game-winning goal in the 17th minute to lead the
Vikings to a 1-0 victory over North Central on October 12. It was her
ninth goal on the year. Frank also has six assists during the 2005 season.
The Shoreview, Minnesota, native already has improved her scoring over last year, when she scored five goals along with two assists. She was honored with the team's Leadership Award for the 2004 season.
Frank has demonstrated her toughness so far this season. Until this week, she had been playing with a splint on her fractured hand. "Abbie has been a mainstay in our attack and much of what we have looked to do going forward this season," says head coach Kyle Lubrano-Fluhr. "She has done everything I've asked of her, and it has certainly paid off. She not only leads in stats, but in every aspect of her life. She is a great model for the younger girls on the team."
Frank is the third Viking to be named Player of the Week in the CCIW this season and the second soccer player. Last week, P.J. Eriksson was honored for his play on the men's soccer team. Brandon Watts was honored for his punting performance on the football team in September.
Athletic Director Jack Surridge says the honors "definitely signal the strength of the athletic programs."
