University Creating List of Faculty Candidates
CHICAGO, IL (October 13, 2005) - North Park University is compiling a list of names of Covenanters with doctoral degrees who may be candidates for future faculty openings, says Mark Olson, dean of student enrollment and director of church relations."We've started keeping a list of names," says Olson, with the objective being improved communication with qualified candidates from Evangelical Covenant Church backgrounds at the time faculty positions become available.
"It's very important" to have people familiar with the Covenant to pass on the ideas and traditions - the heritage," Olson says. The recent retirement of several long-time Covenant faculty members highlighted the need to find job candidates from within the denomination.
North Park is in the beginning stages of developing the list. "There's a recognition that some deliberate steps need to be taken to identify faculty candidates," Olson says. "We expect in the near future to take steps to formulate a more aggressive plan." Part of that plan will include highlighting the benefits of living in the city. "We've stopped apologizing for being in Chicago," Olson says. "It's a beautiful city. There is a lot to do here. The schools are good."
Individuals interested in having their names considered for inclusion in the list should contact Olson by email at molson@northpark.edu or post mail to his attention at North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625.
