Old Cars Draw Crowd at Crossroads Church
CONCORD, CA (August 23, 2005) - The first car rally held by Crossroads
Covenant Church was a huge success, attracting more classic vehicles
than anyone expected, says associate pastor Aaron Gonzenbach.
The rally last Saturday featured 55 cars and four motorcycles,
Gonzenbach says. Some of the owners told Gonzenbach it was the best show
in which they had participated. "It's really a bridge-building event,"
Gonzenbach had said before the rally. "We just want people to know we're
here and to meet our people."
A lot of people did cross the bridge to look at the cars – and enjoy a
barbecue meal. "We bought food for 300 people and there was nothing
left," says Gonzenbach.
Crossroads networked with local car clubs to attract vehicles, say
Gonzenbach.
The clubs routinely meet at places such as local restaurants during the
weeks.
Rain kept down numbers at the car rally held earlier in the month at
Harbert Covenant Church in Harbert, Michigan, says Pastor Joel Kruggel.
Apparently owners don't like bringing their classic cars out in the
rain, Kruggel joked. "It still was a really good time," he added.
