Churches to Provide School Supplies - and Fun
CHICAGO, IL (August 17, 2005) - Two African American Covenant churches are
planning special events to provide school supplies to neighborhood children.
Oakdale Covenant Church, on the south side of Chicago, will provide
students with school supplies thanks to its drama ministry.
Back-to-School, an Evening of Worship and Praise will be held
from 7 to 9 p.m. August 19. The evening will feature the Oakdale
Covenant Church Mass Choir, The Praise and Worship Dancers of St.
Phillip Lutheran Church and Oakdale's Silent Praisers.
The Silent Praisers is an extension of the drama ministry and shares the
gospel in song and mime.
The cost of admission is the donation of school supplies. All supplies
will be donated to a community school.
For information contact Valerie Suber at Oakdale Covenant at
773-779-9440. Oakdale Covenant Church is located at 9440 S. Vincennes
Avenue in Chicago.
Citadel of Faith Covenant Church will host the congregation's second
annual Back-to-School Carnival in downtown Detroit on August 27.
Last year, the one-year-old church plant drew 1,000 people to the
carnival, gave away 450 backpacks full of school supplies and saw 80
people make commitments to Christ. The median income for the area is
$14,000, according to church leaders.
