Classic Cars Another Tool for Outreach
CHICAGO, IL (August 3, 2005) - Classic car collectors will have the
opportunity to show their vehicles at two Evangelical Covenant churches
in different parts of the country this month.
Harbert Covenant Church in Harbert, Michigan, will host a car show
August 11. Crossroads Covenant Church in Concord, California, will host
a show August 20. The show is a new venture for Crossroads, which has
not promoted the evening as a church event, says associate pastor Aaron
Gonzenbach. "It's really a bridge-building event. We just want people to
know we're here and meet our people."
Harbert Covenant Church had a mini-show last year, says pastor Joel
Kruggel. "We invited people in the congregation to show their cars if
they had anything considered classic," he says. The church is broadening
its outreach this year, inviting area car clubs. "I don't know what to
expect," Kruggel says.
Crossroads also is networking with local car clubs to attract vehicles,
say Gonzenbach.
The clubs routinely meet at places such as local restaurants during the
weeks. The show also is open to motorcycles.
Both events will serve free barbecues and admission is free.
