Two New Links Added to Online News Stories

CHICAGO, IL (July 28, 2005) - Two new features have been added to stories published as part of the daily online news report produced by the Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

The first is a link embedded in each news story that allows readers to easily email a copy of an article to a friend. The second new feature provides a link for readers who would like to share their thoughts about a particular story with the online news report editor.

"The idea of including a convenient link to email a news article to a friend is nothing new, especially in the secular news field," notes Don Meyer, executive minister of the department who edits the daily news report. "It is just another part of the evolution of the online news report, which began in April 1998 and has continued to add features as it expands year after year."

A second new link offers readers the opportunity to share their thoughts about a particular story with the editor. "Feedback is important to most news organizations – including ours - providing readers an opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions or share general comments about content they find of interest," Meyer observed. "The responses generated by this new link are intended for our internal review and evaluation and will not be published," he said, noting that consideration is being given to some kind of online public forum or comments section as the news report continues to evolve.

Readers of the online news report also will notice a new look to format and overall appearance of the news pages, adding a level of professionalism that also will be reflected in the daily Covenant Newswire reports in the near future.
