CIPE Launches Six-Week Bible School in Spain

LA CORUNA, SPAIN (July 13, 2005) - The Confraternity of Latin American Evangelical Covenant Churches (CIPE) opened a new Bible school Sunday in Spain to train young adults for different areas of ministry.

Eight young adults from three countries - Spain, Ecuador and the United States - are the first students of the six-week school. They will be taught by part-time faculty from eight countries - Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden and the United States.

"The 'Colegio Biblico' (Bible School) came into being because of the need expressed by youth leaders from five Hispanic countries, to train young adults in different areas inside and outside the church," says short-term missionary Nancy Reed.

"The percentage of youth in Hispanic countries is very high and for that reason there is a high percentage of youth in the membership of the churches," Reed says. "These youth are dynamic in church activities, becoming a primary resource in fulfilling the mission of the church. For this reason, training these young adults is more and more important and indispensable."

The school costs the equivalent of $525 for each student. The cost includes meals and housing, materials, retreats, hiking, trips, tee shirts, visits and the development of projects within the churches and local community. Transportation within the country for the six weeks is covered by the school.

Nancy Reed and her husband, Jerry, retired last year after nearly 39 years of Covenant ministry. They were both missionaries in Latin America, and Jerry Reed also taught evangelism for a number of years at North Park Theological Seminary. They are currently serving as short-term missionaries in Spain, where their son Rob and his wife, Nancy, are Covenant missionaries.
