Johnson Resigns from North Park Seminary, Heads to Fuller
CHICAGO, IL (June 14, 2005) - Todd Johnson has resigned as associate professor of worship and theology at North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS). Johnson, who also served as dean of the Seminary Chapel, is joining the staff of the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology and the Arts at Fuller Theological Seminary, beginning September 1. He will work primarily with doctoral students.
"We're very sorry to lose him," says Jay Phelan Jr., president and dean of North Park Theological Seminary. "We're very excited for the wonderful opportunity he has to serve the wider church and develop the new worship program."
Johnson informed NPTS administration of his decision last week. Phelan says the faculty will determine what the seminary's long-term needs are before proceeding with a search.
Johnson joined the seminary faculty in August 2003. He had taught the previous six years at Loyola University of Chicago's Institute for Pastoral Studies. He also had taught in an adjunct capacity for NPTS, as well as several other institutions.
A 1982 graduate of North Park College, Johnson earned a Master of Divinity with emphasis in Theology from NPTS in 1986. He was ordained in 1988.
Johnson served as an associate pastor at Broadway Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois, and at the Evangelical Covenant Church of South Bend, Indiana, before beginning his teaching career at Loyola. While in South Bend, Johnson earned a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Notre Dame in 1996.
