Asian American Ministry Institute Set for July

OVIEDA, CA (May 23, 2005) - Asian American members of Evangelical Covenant Churches from across the country will lead sessions at the Summer Institute for Asian American Ministry and Theology in July 28-30 in Berkeley, California.

The conference is entitled "Transformational Leaders, Transformed Communities." The Covenant's Center for Community Transformation is co-hosting with the American Baptist Seminary.

"The Institute is geared toward those seeking to effectively reach out to hurting people of their community, bringing Christ to the 'least, the last, and the lost' in their neighborhood, as well as those desiring to learn more about best practices and capacity building for stronger and effective ministry," says Greg Yee, one of the presenters as well as the director of leadership and congregational development with the Pacific Southwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Other leaders include Al Tizon, pastor of Berkeley Covenant Church in Berkeley; Russell Jeung, Asian American Studies professor at San Francisco State University and a member of New Hope Covenant Church in Antioch, California; and Russell Yee, professor at Fuller Northern California and also a member of New Hope Covenant Church.

Leading plenary sessions will be Soong Chan Rah, pastor of the Cambridge Community Fellowship Covenant Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Peter Cha, professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a member of Northbrook Covenant Church in Northbrook, Illinois.

During the conference, the PSWC Church Outreach Commission will host a meal for PSWC leaders involved in local outreach within their communities. To register online or obtain additional information, please see Summer Institute.
