New Churches Highlight Southeast Conference Meeting

OVIEDO, FL (May 11, 2005) - The welcoming of two churches and positive financial reports highlighted this past weekend's Annual Meeting of the Southeast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The meeting was held at Greater Faith Covenant Church in Natchez, Mississippi.

Churches welcomed into the conference are the Bridge Covenant Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, and New City Covenant Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The churches have a combined average attendance of 550.

Conference treasurer Lori Shackelford reported that the conference eliminated all its debt in 2004 in addition to meeting its budget. Following an overview presentation of ministries in the conference, delegates responded with an offering that included pledges totaling $10,239. That amount increased to $20,239 because of a challenge gift of up to $10,000.

In other business:

• Peco Forsman and David Elowsen were recognized for their service as they concluded their terms on the conference executive board. Dave Shaw of Deland, Florida, and Valerie Quinn from Natchez, were elected to the board while Cheryl Herring and Alan Cox were re-elected. Jeff Burton is the new conference chairman.
• Delegates reaffirmed their commitment to the SEC Partners Fund. The conference is seeking 1,000 people in the conference to support its ministry with gifts of at least $100 a year. Twenty-three additional individuals committed themselves to the project during the annual meeting, bringing the total to 120 partners.
• Ruth Hill, executive minister of Women Ministries of the ECC, spoke during the worship service.
