Montecito Covenant to Dedicate New Sanctuary

SANTA BARBARA, CA (April 21, 2005) - Dedication services will be held at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Montecito Covenant Church for its new worship facility, office complex and landscaped grounds. An open house will follow from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event begins the church's "Dedication Festivities Week," during which three concerts will be performed. The Westmont College Choir and Chamber Singers will present a program on Monday, the Westmont College Gospel Choir will make a presentation on Wednesday night, and a concert by contemporary Christian recording artist Brandon Heath will be held Friday evening. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

This dedication completes a 15-year plan for the development of a four-acre parcel adjacent to Westmont College and the botanical gardens at Lotusland. Montecito Covenant was founded in 1960 by a group of young couples, and a facility with a capacity for 200 was dedicated in 1962. The new space a sanctuary seating 300, with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, stained glass windows and wrought iron chandeliers. Elements from the 1962 sanctuary can be seen in the ceiling of several rooms. The construction was funded with a loan from National Covenant Properties.
