Delgado New Director of Evangelism, Prayer

CHICAGO, IL (April 4, 2005) - Edward Delgado has been called to the position of director of evangelism and prayer for the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), it was announced today. The position serves in the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism.

Delgado has most recently been serving as the dean of CHET (Centro Hispano de Estudios Teológicos), a theological and pastoral training center for Hispanic church leaders, pastors and lay leaders founded in 1989. In that position, he has been integral to the development of scores of Hispanic pastors and lay leaders for effective mission and ministry.

Edward Delgado "Now his expertise will be available to the entire ECC", says Gary Walter, executive minister of the department of Church Growth and Evangelism. "Ed's experience, especially with building teams, will help us bring new dimensions of resources to our churches to build on the good array we already have".

"I'm really, really excited about being able to work with teams," Delgado said. "I'm also looking forward to working cross-culturally across the country. This will be the first opportunity I've had to do that."

One new dimension that will receive high priority is developing a network of evangelism coaches who will be available to work with congregations for periods of 12-18 months. The objective is to help individual congregations identify compatible evangelism approaches and to assist with the planning of implementation phases.

Delgado will work collaboratively across all departments and regional conferences to help infuse all areas of the ECC with a passion for both dimensions of his position. He comes to the position with a wealth of ministry experience. Prior to serving at CHET, he was a director with Compassion International, a children's development organization. He also successively served as director of South America, then Africa, and finally Central America.

Delgado holds degrees from the University of Arizona, Thunderbird School of International Management, and Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Lynda, have three grown children, Sergio, Rita, and Libby. He will transition to the position this summer, moving to Chicago in July.
