Covenant Hymnals in Former Hussein Palace?

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (April 1, 2005) - Two Evangelical Covenant chaplains serving in Baghdad were surprised to find a supply of denominational hymnals for use at chapel services recently.

Chaplains and Covenant Hymnal Chaplains Mike Gillett and Ryan Sarenpa do not how the hymnals came to be at the chapel, but said they were glad to find them. The Camp Victory chapel is located in an outlying building at one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces.

The hymnals are marked "Property of U.S. Army Leighton Chapel." That chapel is located in Wurzburg, Germany. The accompanying photo shows Chaplains Mike Gillett (left) and Ryan Sarenpa. The photograph was taken March 24.
