Southeast Conference Retreat Draws 85 Men
NORMAN PARK, GA (March 14, 2005) - Increased racial understanding, new
friendships and even new commitments to Jesus were part of the fifth
annual Men's Retreat of the Southeast Conference held recently.
The 85 men who ranged in ages 16 to 87 came from across the conference
and gathered around the theme "Pursuing the Mission." Each person sat
with a member of a different ethnic group as part of the weekend's
program, says Kurt Miericke, superintendent of the Southeast Conference
of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
One highlight was when four men committed their lives to Christ at the
Saturday night service. Cross-cultural music was played as part of the
worship times. Robert Owens, Tim Rodgers, Gerald Austin and Miericke
shared speaking times. The men also had the opportunity to share during
"open microphone time." "That was really powerful," Miericke says.
