Mitch McVicker in Minnesota Concert Tomorrow
COLLEGE GROVE, MN (March 11, 2005) - Dove Award winner Mitch McVicker will perform at benefit concert at CrossRoads Covenant Church at 7 p.m. tomorrow, March 12.The concert is free, but a love offering will be taken to benefit the church's Touch of Home ministry, which prays for troops abroad and sends care packages weekly. The concert marks the ministry's second anniversary.
Many people contribute to the ministry, but the boxes are packaged primarily by six people: Mary Peterson, Linda Lehrke, Carol Okeson, Lois Halvorson, Jude Lindquist, Jean McPherson and Connie Frazer.
Packages, letters and cards have been sent to Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kuwait, Hawaii and Germany. The women have packed the boxes with items that have included books, snacks, phone cards and homemade goods. They hope their ministry will remind the troops that people are grateful for their service.
The women pray over the boxes before making their weekly delivery to the post office. Postage is $8 to $9 for small boxes and more for larger boxes. Money raised from the concert will help pay for postage and related items.
McVicker received a Dove Award for the 1999 song of the year, "My Deliverer," co-written with Rich Mullins. McVicker also teamed with Mullins to write "Nothing is Beyond You," which Amy Grant recorded. He also has recorded with dcTalk, Ray Boltz and has shared the stage with Mercy Me, Rebecca St. James, and Bebo Norman. The concert will be recorded to send to troops.
