Renovations Under Way at Twin Lakes Center
TWIN LAKES, IA (March 11, 2005) - Twin Lakes Christian Center is undertaking
several renovation projects after a state inspector determined that the
camp's 49-year-old kitchen needed major changes, according Joel Rude,
the camp's executive director.
Other items requiring attention include a rotting walk-in cooler and a
used exhaust hood. The camp also will upgrade the kitchen as part of the
renovation.
The camp also is repairing the infrastructure of the floor in the
historic Swede Bend church – that original church building was relocated
a number of years ago from Swede Bend to the Christian center campus.
Built in 1861 and purchased by the first Covenant congregation in 1868,
the log framing for the floor upon which Carl A. Bjork once walked was
full of dry rot, Rude says. The framing and sub floor have already been
replaced and the original floorboards have been reinstalled.
The interior is being redecorated for 2006, which will mark not only the
30th anniversary of Swede Bend being relocated to the TLCC grounds, but
also the camp's 50th anniversary.
On July 2, TLCC will dedicate a donated and newly renovated lake cabin.
It will be available to full-time Christian ministers and missionaries
for use as a personal spiritual retreat and renewal space. Details on
its availability and the dedication service are pending.
