VBS Project to Benefit Colombia Church
CHICAGO, IL (March 11, 2005) - Funds raised during this summer's VBS Project will benefit the Covenant Church of Colombia, it has been announced by the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).The "Providing for Learning" project will help support the equipping of churches and schools to better serve the educational needs in Colombia. The project goal is $15,500 – enough to provide materials and equipment for 34 Covenant churches and three schools that are currently ministering to 3,200 children.
The Covenant Church of Colombia was founded in 1968, beginning in Medellin and expanding to Bogota and Cartagena, among others. The Covenant in Colombia has more than 35 member churches, with several church plants in process. There are more than 20 social ministries, a national Christian education ministry, a national youth ministry and a national women's ministry working in three regions of Colombia and in at least 18 cities and towns.
Gary and Mary Lou Sander and Cathy Campobello are full-time Covenant missionaries serving in Colombia. They were instrumental in preparing a comprehensive booklet that will enable VBS programs throughout North American Covenant churches to know more about Colombia and the children's ministries in place within Colombian Covenant churches and affiliated schools.
