Nelson (BC) Church to Celebrate 75th Anniversary
NELSON, BC (March 10, 2005) - The Evangelical Covenant Church of Nelson will celebrate 75 years of ministry with a weekend event September 3-4, according to pastor James Minturn.On September 4, the congregation will host a Sunday morning worship service at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson, a noted playhouse. Jeff Anderson, superintendent of the Canada Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church and a previous senior pastor in Nelson, will give the morning sermon. Following Sunday morning worship, the church will hold a picnic at nearby Lakeside Park.
Another of the church's previous pastors, Dan Johnson, will be the guest speaker for a Saturday banquet September 3.
The Evangelical Covenant Church of Nelson was founded in 1930. The church is located three hours north of Spokane, Washington, and has a combined worship attendance of 300. The congregation includes a satellite church in Balfour and two separate congregations meeting in the same building while being funded by a combined budget. A Saturday evening contemporary service is conducted at the Nelson facility while blended services on Sundays occur both in Balfour and in Nelson.
