Candidates Sought for Evangelism/Prayer Position
CHICAGO, IL (February 28, 2005) - Applications are being accepted for a position as director of evangelism and prayer for the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church.This position is responsible for advocating, strategizing and implementing initiatives in areas of prayer and evangelism, considered a critical priority for the denomination, local Covenant churches and all involved in Covenant ministry, according to Gary Walter, executive minister of Church Growth and Evangelism. "This person is in many ways the advocate for those outside the Kingdom of God," Walter says. "Similarly, a heart for people flows from a heart for God. Therefore, this position also gives leadership in the area of denominational prayer ministries, working closely with the Department of Christian Formation."
In fulfilling the requirements of the position, the successful candidate will:
- Embody evangelism and prayer through a personal lifestyle committed to practice and growth in these areas.
- Advocate for the priority of evangelism and prayer through speaking, writing and teaching opportunities.
- Develop and manage materials to equip churches and individuals in areas of evangelism and prayer.
- Develop a model for coaching congregations in the area of evangelism.
- Multiply effectiveness through developing a team of associates in the areas of evangelism and prayer, including congregational coaches for evangelism.
- Find points of collaboration and coordination with the Department of Christian Formation in the area of prayer ministries.
- Serve as team leader for the FEAST, an intergenerational prayer conference for the denomination (a FEAST celebration will take place this June in conjunction with the 2005 Annual Meeting of the ECC in Keystone, Colorado).
- Serve North Park Theological Seminary as a resource for teaching on evangelism and in other areas.
- Represent the ECC through involvement in interchurch opportunities.
- Pursue continuing education opportunities that keep this position on the leading edge of trends in the field.
- Accomplish other assignments consistent with the mission and opportunities of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism.
The position is based at Covenant offices and requires residency in the Chicago area. It has a significant travel component, estimated to average eight nights per month. As a division leader within the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism, this position reports directly to the executive minister of the department.
