Call to Renewal Chapter to Organize
CHICAGO, IL (February 25, 2005) - Christa Mazzone, a former North Park University student working with the national organization Call to Renewal, was scheduled to return today (Friday) to help students organize a local chapter.
A native of Chicago, Christa received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology
while at North Park where she was heavily involved in volunteer work
with local shelters, food pantries and a domestic violence hotline.
Christa served as the program coordinator for North Park's Homelessness and Hunger Outreach Team from September 2000 to May 2002. As program coordinator, Christa organized group trips to a local food bank, coordinated student volunteer efforts with nearby food pantries and shelters, and promoted student awareness around homelessness and hunger.
Christa joined the Call to Renewal team as field organizer in September 2003 after working with the organization as an intern for one year as part of the Sojourners internship program.
Call to Renewal is a national network of churches, faith-based organizations and individuals working to overcome poverty in America. The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) is a member along with other organizations such as Bread for the World, World Vision, the Christian Reformed Church and Evangelicals for Social Action. ECC President Glenn Palmberg serves on the national board of directors.
Call to Renewal also participated with the more than 300 students from the Midwest who promoted the cause of the homeless and hungry during a "sleep out" in Chicago last weekend (see related story).
