Mrs. Sanguma Recovering in Karawa Hospital
KARAWA, CONGO (February 21, 2005) - Six members of the Congo Covenant Church (CEUM) leadership team are recovering from a flu-like illness in a Karawa hospital following an emergency flight Sunday from Bumba, Covenant News Service has learned.Eight CEUM leaders were flown on a Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) flight including CEUM President Dr. Mossai Sanguma and his wife, Sabuli, who was one of those admitted for treatment. Others admitted for treatment included two chauffeurs, finance director Dedo; education coordinator Mayangana; and Pastor Goma. In addition to President Sanguma, Mama Sombo also accompanied the ill members on the flight.
In an earlier email dispatch, a source told Covenant News Service that Mrs. Sanguma had a high fever and had received two transfusions prior to the emergency flight. A nurse from Bumba was scheduled to accompany her on the flight.
"It sounds like everyone on the team has had some illness, but most not to a severe degree," one source advised Covenant News Service in an email update this afternoon. "There has been lots of testing done to try to determine what is wrong, but so far there have been no specific conclusions. They were able to send some blood samples to Kinshasa on the MAF return flight today. This morning when I went to see Mama Sabuli, she was much better. She said she had slept very well - we said she must have been the only one who slept well as it was 94 degrees yesterday and not much cooler during the night.
"President Sanguma said he slept outside on the guest house porch," the source continues. "So we are praising God for her improvement. The others were already on the road to recovery, so seem to be okay. We are thankful there is improvement."
