Rain Continues to Drench Alpine Camp

BLUE JAY, CA (February 21, 2005) - Alpine Camp and Conference Center, already treading water from record rains earlier in the year, has received more than three inches of rain since last Thursday, says Stan White, executive director.

"We have 300 people waiting for their buses," says White. Fears of mudslides had closed all roads but one to the mountain camp. The trip, which normally takes two hours, will take from four to six hours, White adds.

The National Weather Service is predicting as much as 15 inches of snow could fall through Wednesday. More than three inches of rain has fallen since last Thursday. "It's like it's been non-stop," White says.

Heavy rains that inundated Southern California last month caused minor flooding and erosion at the camp. Cleanup already had begun at the camp, in part with the help of a volunteer work crew of 56 people from another camp.
