Saturday Service Planned for Don Michealsen
SANTA BARBARA, CA (February 21, 2005) - A memorial service will be conducted Saturday for Don Michealsen, well-known lay leader in the Evangelical Covenant Church who served as the contractor for six retirement centers as part of Covenant Retirement Communities.The service will begin at 2 p.m. at Montecito Covenant Church in Santa Barbara where he had been a longtime member. A family graveside service will be held on Friday.
"Without his leadership, vision and drive, Covenant retirement communities would not be what they are today," says Karl Klockars, executive vice president of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence. "With his leadership, the retirement communities have developed a national recognition for excellence," he noted. "He was a man you shook hands with and he would make sure the job got done."
Michealsen served on the Covenant Board of Benevolence from 1974 to 1979. He was a member of the Montecito Covenant Church in Santa Barbara, California. He served as the contractor for Covenant Village of Turlock, Mount Miguel Covenant Village and The Samarkand in California; Covenant Shores in Washington; and the Holmstad and Covenant Village of Northbrook in Illinois. The Michealsen Health Center, a skilled nursing facility at the Holmstad in Batavia, is named for him.
