Japan Covenant Church Ordains Pastor, Elects Chair
TOKYO, JAPAN (February 12, 2005) - More than 70 pastors and delegates at the annual meeting of the Japan Covenant Church celebrated 19 baptisms that have taken place over the past nine months, ordained a new pastor and elected its next denominational chair.The gathering was held Friday at the Covenant Seminary in Tokyo. Pastor Makoto Hiyoshi was ordained and Pastor Masami Katsumoto was elected to be the next denominational chair. Hiyoshi's and his father serve the church in Nagaoka City that suffered extensive earthquake damage last October.
Other major business included passing of a budget for fiscal 2005, approval of a plan to restructure some of the key denominational committees, and approval of the revised and updated denominational long range planning document. The meeting concluded with a communion service lead by Katsumoto.
