Kenneth Carlson Elected Chair of Council of Superintendents
CHICAGO, IL (February 7, 2005) - Kenneth P. Carlson is the new chair of the Council of Superintendents of the Evangelical Covenant Church, succeeding Mark Novak, superintendent of the North Pacific Conference, who completed his terms in office. Carlson was elected during the council's January meeting.
Carlson, who serves as superintendent of the Midwest Conference, has his
office in Omaha, Nebraska, where he and his wife, Nancy, also reside. A
1973 graduate of North Park Theological Seminary with a Master of
Divinity degree, Carlson was ordained by the Covenant Annual Meeting the
following year.
Having completed his seminary internship at First Covenant Church in Moline, Illinois, Carlson accepted a call to the Covenant Congregational Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, following graduation from seminary. Four years later he was called to become a church planter at Crossroads Covenant Church in Concord, California, where he remained more than five years. He accepted a call as senior pastor of the Brookwood Covenant Church of Topeka, Kansas, early in 1983. In the summer of 1987, Carlson and his family moved to Omaha where he began serving the Midwest Conference staff as associate superintendent. He was re-elected in 2003 to begin his third four-year term as superintendent.
