Candidates Sought for News Reporting Position

CHICAGO, IL (September 30, 2004) - Applications are being accepted for a full-time news reporting and writing position in the Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church, reporting to the executive minister.

This position conducts interviews, researches and collects information and data for use in news reports for both online news reports and in periodicals produced by the department. This individual also assists the editor in coordinating news and information content for other Covenant publications, develops and supervises conference-level news contacts as well as a network of news correspondents in North America.

The individual must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a professional and prompt manner. The individual must have the ability to work with limited direction, take initiative and organize priorities. The position demands accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Good judgment is necessary. The person must be tactful and possess highly developed communication skills (written and verbal, English) and be able to communicate effectively with staff and others with whom this position has contact.

The successful candidate preferably will have a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and at least two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent reporting, writing and editing skills are required. Connections to a wide range of sources for articles and news stories, both inside and outside the Covenant, are helpful. Some travel is required.
