Anchorage Church Celebrates New Building
ANCHORAGE, AK (September 16, 2004) - First Evangelical Covenant Church celebrated and dedicated a new building addition last weekend.Pastor Ron Mancini used the gospel account of Jesus naming Peter ("Upon this rock I will build my church") during his sermon as more than 200 attended Sunday morning worship. The adult choir special music was led by 8-year-old Ethan Nelson, a fourth grade student. A potluck lunch followed worship.
Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska (ECCAK) field director Rodney Sawyer was also in attendance during the weekend as the church officially completed its 1,500-square-foot building addition. National Covenant Properties is helping with financing for the project estimated at about $750,000.
On Friday, the church hosted a dinner and country music concert at the church. The event was designed to bring friends from the nearby neighborhood in downtown Anchorage. On Saturday, the congregation had a barbecue and contemporary worship concert.
First Evangelical Covenant Church has an average worship attendance of about 100, according to associate pastor Nathan Toots. The building project began in August 2003. Building committee members included Chester Millett, Jim Hjelm, William Nelson, Stan Bronczyk, Bruce Markwood and (chair) Wilmer Jayson Oudal.
