Candidates Sought for Director of North Park Archives
CHICAGO, IL (September 8, 2004) - Candidates are being sought for a tenure track faculty position as director of archives and special collections at North Park University.The North Park University Archives and Special Collections houses the archives of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the Swedish American Historical Society, the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies, North Park University and special collections. The archives are located in Brandel Library, built in 2001 and containing approximately 7,300 square feet.
The position reports to the library director and is responsible for all aspects of archival administration, including reference and access, acquisition, outreach and donor relations, processing and description, preservation, online presence and special collections. This individual is responsible for building interlibrary relationships as well as relationships with owners and trustees of collections and participates in general library reference and instruction, supervising volunteers, student assistants and part-time staff.
Qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited school with courses in archival science or a masters in archival science and a second subject masters degree. Three years of experience in archives administration and a reading knowledge of a Scandinavian language are preferred.
