Candidates Sought for Engebretson Chair at NPTS
CHICAGO, IL (September 4, 2004) - North Park Theological Seminary is accepting applications for the Milton B. Engebretson chair in church growth and evangelism. This is a full-time tenure or tenure track position.Responsibilities include teaching in areas of church growth and evangelism in the seminary's Master of Divinity and Master of Arts programs. Teaching competence in personal evangelism, evangelism planning for local churches, critical analysis of contemporary cultures and local church development are assumed. The successful candidate will also develop an appreciation of the ministries, convictions and theological distinctives of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). The position includes teaching core courses in evangelism and discipleship in the seminary's masters-level programs.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., ECC ordination and pastoral experience. Qualifications include an interest in and the ability to work with a strong program of ministerial formation, the ability to integrate academic and spiritual formation of candidates in preparation for a broad range of ministries and the ability to engage in research and writing in a collegial setting. The ability to integrate hands-on ministry and theoretical engagement of culture is essential, as is compatibility with the ethos of the ECC.
The chair is named for the late Dr. Milton B. Engebretson who served as ECC president for more than 20 years. Engebretson was deeply committed to evangelism and church growth and oversaw a time of considerable growth in the denomination. The chair honors both his memory and his commitment to an educated clergy capable of carrying out evangelistic tasks both personally and corporately.
