Lund Lectures Scheduled September 21, 23

CHICAGO, IL (September 1, 2004) - The annual Nils W. Lund Memorial Lectures, presented by North Park Theological Seminary, will be held on Tuesday, September 21, and Thursday, September 23, in Isaacson Chapel on the campus of North Park.

Tuesday's New Testament lecture entitled "The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony" will be presented by Dr. Richard Bauckham, professor of New Testament studies and Bishop Wardlaw professor at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. The lecture will be given in two parts beginning at 9 a.m.

Dr. Gordon McConville, professor of Old Testament at the University of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, is giving Thursday's Old Testament address, also beginning at 9 a.m. McConville's first lecture is entitled "Old Testament Israel as Paradigm Nation" and his second is "Old Testament Israel as 'Righteous' Nation."

"The Lund Lectures bring renowned scholars in New and Old Testament studies to North Park Theological Seminary," says Guylla Brown, administrative assistant to the seminary president. "These lectures allow for discussion between North Park faculty, students, area pastors and the scholars. They are also recorded and are available through the library for all Covenant pastors."

The Nils W. Lund Memorial Lectures in Biblical Studies are made possible by a fund established by the late Hugo Anderson. He was a life-long friend of Lund, who graduated from North Park Theological Seminary and served as pastor of several Covenant churches before being called to North Park in 1922. From 1925-1938 he served as dean of the seminary.

The Lund Lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Brown at 773-244-6214.
