Moore-Orbih Consecrated to Lead AVA Ministry
PORTLAND, OR (August 13, 2004) - Aleese Moore-Orbih was consecrated today to lead the new Advocacy for Victims of Abuse (AVA) ministry that is part of Covenant Women Ministries (CWM) of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
The consecration service, led by Pacific Southwest Conference Supt.
Evelyn M.R. Johnson along with Ruth Hill, CWM executive minister, took
place during Triennial XI that began yesterday evening and will conclude
Sunday.
"For two years we have been praying and seeking God's guidance to bring this vision into being, and now we are here," an emotional Hill told a packed audience of some 1,300 women from through the Covenant church in North America and beyond.
Moore-Orbih of Freemont, California, had served since 1997 as associate pastor of missions and evangelism at South Bay Community Church. She previously served as interim pastor of Greater Faith Baptist Church in Berkeley, California; worked with materials management for American President Lines Program in Oakland, California; and was administrator for Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
"Two words summarize my conviction that Aleese is the woman to lead AVA - called and gifted," said Hill at the time of Moore-Orbih's selection. "The Lord gave her a vision for advocacy two years ago, about the same time he gave CWM its vision. We both have obediently pursued that vision and now find our calling joined together."
