Golf Tourney Raises $4,200 for Camp, Commission

IRON RIVER , MI (July 30, 2004) - About $4,200 was raised for Covenant Point Bible Camp and the Town and Country Commission of the Evangelical Covenant Church on Monday as 60 individuals played in the 20th annual Dusty Larson Memorial Open Golf Tournament at the George Young Golf Course.

Len Bietila, Bob Wurzer, Jerry Gedvick and Rich Henrion combined to win the team title with a score of 62 for 18 holes. Second place went to the foursome of Tim Lindahl, Anders Lindwall, Nathan Troost and Teddy Saldivar, who combined for a score of 63.

Ed Lindwall, who is on the tournament committee, said Monday's event had both the largest number of participants and raised the largest amount of money for the camp and commission. People from teens to those in their 80s were part of the day's festivities, which included a lunch and silent auction. The local golf course donated the greens fees and others donated prizes for the auction.

The Dusty Larson tournament honors longtime Covenant pastor Quentin "Dusty" Larson, who advocated for town and country churches while serving in those congregations during his years of ministry. Started in 1997, the Dusty Larson Memorial Fund assists North Park Theological Seminary pastors who graduate and accept a call to a town and country church. For more about the Town and Country Commission, call Rob Hall at the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism at 773-907-3341.
