Celebration of Life Service for Loraine Londborg
WESTMINSTER, CO (July 15, 2004) - A celebration of life service was conducted
May 17 for former Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Loraine
(Lundstedt) Londborg who died on May 12.
Londborg, 82, was living at Covenant Village of Colorado at the time of
her death. The
celebration of life service was conducted in Arvada, according to her
daughter, Linda.
Londborg and her husband, Maynard, were called to serve in Alaska with
the Covenant's Department of World\ Mission beginning in 1946. Married
on March 12, 1945, the Londborgs served primarily at Covenant High
School in Unalakleet and nearby Covenant Children's Home. Loraine taught
piano for local children, did visitation ministry and also used her
nursing skills, which were honed at Swedish Covenant Hospital in
Chicago. She graduated from the hospital's nursing program in 1944 after
having spent a year at North Park Junior College. She also attended
North Park Bible Institute before heading to Alaska.
In 1966, the Londborgs left Alaska and Maynard taught at Minnehaha
Academy in Minneapolis, Minnesota, until 1976. He was also the chaplain
there. Meanwhile,
Loraine was assistant nursing supervisor at Augustana Nursing Home in
Minneapolis.
The Londborgs headed to Little Falls, Minnesota, in 1976, where Maynard
served as pastor of Grace Covenant Church and Loraine used her many
talents to bless the
congregation in a variety of ways. Daughter Linda stated that the
couple's hospitality was greatly appreciated by parishioners. Loraine
also taught Sunday school at Grace Covenant Church.
In 1985, the Londborgs returned to Alaska and the couple helped start
church planting ministries in Anchorage and Palmer. The Mat-Su Covenant
Church was particularly blessed by the efforts of Loraine and Maynard,
said Linda Londborg. After retirement in
1990, the Londborgs stayed in Alaska until 1998 when they moved to
Colorado. They most recently had attended Heritage Community Bible
Church, a Covenant congregation in Arvada.
Londborg is survived by her husband and four children: Linda, Peter,
John and Elizabeth and their families.
