Life Church (OK) Acquires Building for Tulsa Campus
TULSA, OK (July 14, 2004) - Life Church's Tulsa campus will begin using a recently purchased facility this fall that previously housed a Seventh Day Adventist church. The two-year-old satellite congregation is scheduled to occupy the new $1.3 million building October 1, according to Kevin Penry, chief operating officer for the church. The church already has received $143,605 to assist with the down payment on the 23,000-square-foot facility, according to a recent email newsletter update.
The Life Church Tulsa campus building has a sanctuary seating up to 600 people as well as a multipurpose space, children's education rooms, offices and a large lobby area. The former tenant will lease space at their old facility on Saturdays while preparing to move into a new facility of its own.
Life Church was founded in 1997 and merged with another congregation in 2001. It expanded to two campuses shortly thereafter - in Oklahoma City and Edmond. The church expanded its ministry to Tulsa (initial core development began early in 2002) and the church worshiped in a local Holiday Inn for a time. The Tulsa congregation currently worships in an area high school. The church averages 800 in worship attendance, said Penry.
In September 2003, Life Church launched another satellite campus, this one in Stillwater. The combined Life Church average worship attendance – in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Tulsa and Stillwater – totals about 11,000 individuals per weekend. It is the largest Covenant congregation in terms of average worship attendance. Penry says that Life Church has been ranked as high as eighth in the United States in one statistical analysis in terms of church growth and attendance.
