Hybels to Speak at Church Grand Opening
DETROIT, MI (June 28, 2004) - Citadel of Faith Covenant Church hosts a two-month grand opening celebration this summer, beginning with a worship service on Sunday, July 18 at 4:00 p.m. Bill Hybels, senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, and author of Too Busy Not to Pray and Courageous Leadership, will be the guest speaker.The celebration will continue each Sunday through August 29. Other special guests during the celebration include Bishop Larry D. Trotter from Chicago, Illinois, gospel recording artist Pastor Marvin Sapp, Stellar-Award winning group New Direction and many others.
Citadel's pastor and church planter is Harvey Carey, formerly assistant pastor of the 17,000-member Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. He began working in Detroit since last summer: the church hosted Bible studies during the fall and has been meeting for Sunday worship in recent months. His ministry in Detroit is a dream come true, Carey said.
"Since 1987, I've felt the tug of the Lord to start a ministry in Detroit," says Carey. "And nothing would ebb the desire in my heart to pastor God's people in this wonderful city."
More than 100 leaders and their families have joined the congregation, which meets in the central Detroit area. The congregation includes of a diverse mix of members from various social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. In addition, Citadel of Faith has developed partnerships with civic leaders, churches, and community organizations to organize new and strategic ministry to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Detroit.
