Colorado Raising Funds to Build New Facility
CASTLE ROCK, CO (June 10, 2004) - Castle Oaks Evangelical Covenant Church hosted a Celebration Sunday on June 6 as it begins its capital fund drive in hopes of building a facility in the future. There were 157 participating in worship last Sunday, said office manager Cindy Veith. The church has received three-year pledges totaling $180,500 as part of the drive, which is called "Taking Root, Growing Strong." The team leader for the effort is Jim Goings.
Castle Oaks Covenant has hosted weekly worship services since April 2000. It is a daughter church of Centennial Covenant Church in nearby Littleton. Founding pastor Herb Frost and his wife, Paula, were members of Centennial Covenant in the early 1990s. Frost worked in private business at the time.
After living in Michigan for a short while, the Frosts felt called to church planting ministry and returned to the Denver area before making inquiries with the Evangelical Covenant Church about starting a new ministry. They began core group development in 1999 and now the congregation averages 170 in worship. There were 250 in worship for Easter Sunday, according to a recent newsletter report.
With a contemporary traditional blend of music, the congregation has grown its small group ministry in a variety of ways and most adults are currently in some sort of small group, said Veith. Another area of specialty is in children's and youth ministry. The teens have been very servant-minded, she says. In fact, the youth ministry is taking its third mission trip later this month (they have gone to Alaska and Mexico in the past). This time they are headed to Pedras Nigras, Mexico, as part of a Youth For Christ venture.
The adults have a mind for missions also - pastor Frost and Eric Shield are headed to Tanzania for mission work this summer to provide encouragement for missionaries the congregation has been supporting.
