Walk-a-Thon to Raise Food Pantry Funds

CHICAGO, IL (June 8, 2004) - The North Park Friendship Center, an affiliation of north side Evangelical Covenant churches, hopes to raise $8,000 this year through participation in the June 19 Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD).

The walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Montrose Harbor along the lakefront with the scheduled walking route heading north along the lake to Foster Avenue and back. The Walk-a-Thon provides food pantries in the greater Chicago area an opportunity to raise money toward food purchases made through GCFD. Every penny earned by walkers – plus bonus funds – is credited to participating food pantries like the friendship center.

Clyde Green of Community Covenant in Calumet City, Illinois, urges Covenanters to support the project and participate. "Those of you who are reading this article may know of other Covenant churches in the Chicagoland area who support or sponsor a pantry affiliated with the GCFD," Green notes. "If so, this is your chance to provide support."

For more information about the walk, call Green at 708-385-7477 or Ann Maleski at the North Park Friendship Center at 773-267-8395. Information also is available online at www.chicagosfoodbank.org.
