Fairmont (MN) Raising Funds for Building Expansion
FAIRMONT, MN (June 4, 2004) - Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church is hosting
a Pledge Sunday on June 6 as it begins a multi-phase building project in
a community located about 120 miles from the Twin Cities.
The congregation of 170 is constructing an addition to its existing
structure - the first phase is estimated to cost $805,000, according to
pastor Daniel Fullerton. Phase one, which totals about 8,000 square
feet, includes expansion of a multipurpose gathering area and the
addition of Sunday school rooms. Phase two will include the addition of
a sanctuary seating 300, says Fullerton, who has been at the church 11
years. The existing building was dedicated on June 12, 1983, four years
after the church was formed.
Fairmont Covenant commemorated 25 years of ministry on April 18 with
several former pastors among 232 participating in a Sunday morning
worship event. The congregation organized on April 15, 1979, meeting in
a local school with 30 charter members under pastor Marvin Eppard. It
had 30-35 people meeting for weekly Bible studies for months prior to
the founding, according to church records.
Although it has not been in existence for a lengthy period, the
congregation already has made its mark on the larger Covenant church.
One member from the church, Daron Jagodzinske, is now a Covenant pastor
in New Hampshire. Another couple, Francisco and Stephanie Ramos,
currently serve as Covenant missionaries in Paris, France.
Fullerton notes the church has made efforts to reach out to the
community through ministries like the 12-step group that incorporates
components of the Alcoholics Anonymous paradigm. The program has been
geared to be practical for both traditional and non-traditional church
attendees and has used "Hunger For Healing" by J. Keith Miller as a
spiritual guide. Miller is speaking at a fall renewal event November 5-7.
