Prayer Team Members Sought for Triennial XI

PORTLAND, OR (May 7, 2004) - PORTLAND, OR (May 7) – Prayer Partners are being sought by Covenant Women Ministries (CWM) to focus on the August Triennial XI in Portland – a major event in the life of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

In just fewer than 100 days, hundreds of women will begin making their way to Portland for this event, notes CWM Executive Minister Ruth Hill in a special letter to supporters. "I am looking for prayer partners who will make a 100-day commitment to pray earnestly for Triennial XI," Hill states.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us," the letter continues. "And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him. I am looking for 'pray-ers' who will pray 'according to his will' for Triennial XI. We do not want Triennial to be a 'success' - we want God to be glorified and his will accomplished in the lives of every woman there."

The theme of Triennial XI is Meet Me at the River. "This theme is meant to convey the obvious - that we gather at a beautiful facility on the banks of the mighty Columbia River," Hill observes. "But more than that, we gather to experience the cleansing flow of God's love and power, and to draw near to Jesus Christ who gives living water. We travel from all points around North America and the world to meet face-to-face to enjoy and celebrate our similarities and differences in the Lord Jesus Christ."

This year's event will be held August 12-15 at the DoubleTree Hotel in the Jantzen Beach complex in Portland. Key speakers include Brenda Salter-McNeil, "a dynamic woman, a recognized leader and an articulate and vibrant speaker who shares the Word of God in a manner that encourages, energizes and motivates women who hear her," Hill notes. Another featured speaker is Judy Howard Peterson who hails from Apple Valley, Minnesota. She attended North Park University where she completed a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology. Judy's passion to share Christ's love with others led her to spend a year teaching troubled youth in inner city Chicago.

A variety of seminars also have been planned to provide resources and practical knowledge to respond to the concerns of today's women, from the Gen-X'er to Baby Boomers to Seniors.

Those interested in joining the prayer team for Triennial XI are asked to send an email message to cwm@covoffice.org to inform CWM staff of the commitment. Make certain to include "100-day Commitment" in the subject line of the email. Hill also requests women to share the prayer team request with other friends and family, encouraging them to similarly join the team.
