Friendship Center Hosts Open House Today

CHICAGO, IL (May 2, 2004) - The North Park Friendship Center will dedicate its new facilities during an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. today. The center, which is a ministry of northside Chicago Covenant churches, is located at 5324-B North Kedzie in Chicago.

The new facility houses the Food Pantry and Mother's Closet, which were previously located at 5240 N. Christiana Avenue adjacent to North Park Covenant Church. For more than 30 years this agency has provided food through the pantry ministry begun by North Park Covenant Church in the early seventies. About six years ago, the center became part of a corporation known as The North Park Friendship Center. Programs include 50-plus, food distribution, clothing distribution and a community Bible study entitled "Food for Body and Soul."

During any given day, at least 40 families are provided food and clothing through the assistance of as many as 45 volunteers, according to Ann S. Maleski, Pantry Ministries coordinator. give time and energy to our programs. Last year the food program distributed more than 200,000 pounds of food in the northside neighborhood.
