Kansas Church Hosts First Service in New Building May 2
SALINA, KS (April 22, 2004) - First Covenant Church will host its first service in its new 44,000 square foot facility on May 2, said staff representatives.The church is inviting former pastors and parishioners back to the church on June 13 as it commemorates its long and rich history with a time capsule, open house and a barbecue. An open house for the community of Salina is slated for September, said Doug McHenry, associate pastor.
First Covenant's building project includes a sanctuary for 650 and a large parking lot on 34 acres of property. The cost is $6.4 million for the land and building. A local bank has provided a loan and the church raised $4 million in pledges and gifts and also sold its current building for a substantial sum of money. First Covenant Church celebrated a groundbreaking service June 16, 2002 for the new facility, which is east of town.
Located in city of 47,000 in central Kansas, First Covenant Church has an average worship attendance of 775 and has been under the leadship of Dan Pietrzyk, senior pastor, for nearly a decade. The congregation celebrated the 125th of the church's ministry in 2003.
