CBC to Graduate 169 Students in Spring Commencements
STRATHMORE, AB (April 13, 2004) - Covenant Bible College will graduate 169
students in three commencement exercises to be held in Strathmore,
Alberta (April 23-25); Windsor, Colorado (May 7-9); and La Merced,
Ecuador (May 21-23).
Commencement weekend activities at each campus reflect many of the
components of the eight-month discipleship program, said CBC President
Neil Josephson. "Students witness to the work of God in their lives,
conduct worship, express their ministry arts gifts and commit to
continuing their faith journey.
"It is difficult to convey what it is to live in a challenging and
dynamic spiritual community for eight months," Josephson continued. "It
is a place of joy, play, peace, service, study, prayer and praise. In a
nutshell, we seek to create a 'thin place' where students can have an
authentic and intimate experience with God and others."
Following commencement at the Canada campus, student members of the
small group ministry team will travel across Canada and into Minnesota,
conducting concerts and leading worship at nearly 25 Evangelical
Covenant churches. Most notable will be their participation in the
centennial celebration of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada on
May 1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The ministry team from Covenant Bible
College-Midwest will travel to California to minister in Covenant
churches May 12-24.
Covenant Bible College and the Canada Covenant are inextricably linked,
Josephson believes. "When the Canada Covenant was founded in 1904, it
determined to be a body of believers who valued, and sought to live by,
the Word of God. That commitment led to the first of several Bible
institutes hosted by various Canadian Covenant churches, and ultimately
to the establishment in 1941 of a permanent Bible school now known as
Covenant Bible College."
Commencement also launches both students and faculty on a summer of
mission work and ministry opportunities. Thirteen students from the
three campuses will travel to Russia on a missions trip June 9-30,
faculty members will be in ministry roles at many Covenant camps, and
CBC-Midwest will host two retreats for adults entitled Opus Dei (Work of
God) at their Colorado campus June 27-July 2 and August 29-September 3.
Classes begin in September at all campuses; space is still available for
post-high school students to apply for the 2004-05 year. For more
